Shanna maintains multiple websites, some of which include blogs on freelance writing, experiences with her family's attempts at homesteading, and a post-zombie apocalypse survival training blog which you'd have to see to believe.

With an educational background in computer science with training in networks, computer forensics, and Windows-based applications, Shanna was previously trained in early childhood education and has worked as a preschool teacher and office assistant. She also draws experience from being a single parent, learning to both live fully and have fun on a limited budget.

Shanna's volunteer experience includes her most recent service as a Community Team Leader (now called a Community Network Coordinator) in Soldiers' Angels, which she has been involved in since 2006. In 2010, Shanna received the gold-level President's Volunteer Service Award for her efforts in supporting the troops through care packages, cards, and letters, and spreading the word to others to help raise the morale of both active duty and veteran military service members. In the past, Shanna has also done volunteer work with local food pantries and homeless shelters. In her late teens, she was also a regular volunteer at King Veteran's Home in King, Wisconsin.
